Introduction.

I've been a fan of the watts-up and kill-a-watt devices for a while. Over the last few months I've been going around my home measuring just about everything that I have that can be plugged in.

Bedroom.

  • TV (standby) - 5W (on) - 43-60W
  • Netgear Wireless router - 9W
  • Stereo (standby) - 11W
  • Stereo (on) - 20W
Lounge.
  • TV (standby) - <1W
  • TV (on) - 96W-110W (depending on amount of motion)
  • Motorola DCT3412 DVR cablebox (on) - 32W (standby) - 32W (Great job Motorola).

  • Mac Mini (OSX suspend to ram) - 2W (Note that letting it idle and 'auto suspend' fails to suspend properly, and only goes down to 19W. Had I not been measuring, I'd have had no idea this was broken. Only suspending using the power button puts it into 2W mode. Yet another Leopard bug.)
